2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt revealed

The 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt has gone official ahead of its debut at the 2018 Detroit motor show.

Paying tribute to the 1968 Mustang that starred in the Bullitt film alongside Steve McQueen, the 2019 limited-edition Pony car packs several unique features, along with added performance from its 5.0-litre V8.

Headlining the special model is the Dark Highland Green exterior paint, special 19-inch ‘torque thrust’ alloy wheels, unique ‘Bullitt’ badging inside and out, red-painted Brembo brakes, a unique front grille, along with lashings of chrome and minimal exterior badging.

Under the bonnet is a re-jigged version of the Mustang GT’s 5.0-litre V8, which now puts out 475hp (354kW) and 420lb-ft (569Nm). The Bullitt is only available with a six-speed manual transmission – with the gear knob shaped like a white cue ball as a nod to the original.

With that extra grunt, the Mustang Bullitt is capable of hitting 163mph (262km/h) – 8mph (13km/h) more than the ‘standard’ Mustang GT.

Other features include an active performance exhaust with black tips, an Open Air Induction System, 87mm throttle bodies and an intake manifold from the Shelby GT350.

Inside, the Bullitt is equipped as standard with a heated leather steering wheel, and a version of the 12-inch digital instrument cluster that features a green theme to match the exterior.

Buyers can also option leather-trimmed Recaro sports seats with green accents (pictured), MagneRide adaptive suspension, and the Bullitt Electronics Package – incorporating navigation, memory functions for the driver’s seat and mirrors, an upgraded sound system, along with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

The 2019 Mustang Bullitt will be presented alongside one of the original 1968 Mustangs used in the film, ending a 40-year mystery regarding the movie car’s whereabouts.

Australia

Ford’s local arm says the Mustang Bullitt is confirmed only for the US market at this stage, making the special model an unlikely starter for Australia.
