MG Motor Australia expands dealer network

MG Motor Australia has expanded its dealer network, adding four dealerships – Moorooka (Qld), Redcliffe (Qld), Wagga Wagga (NSW), and Werribee (Vic) – to bring the brand’s dealer network in Australia to 10.

The British marque, now owned by Chinese auto giant SAIC Motor, relaunched in Australia late last year with a small range of models. The latest, the MG ZS, launched in Australia this week with two variants of the compact SUV, Soul ($20,990) and Essence ($23,990). A third, entry-level and presumably cheaper variant, the Core, is expected in the new year.

Peter Cao, MG Motor Australia general manager said: “MG is motoring ahead in Australia, and we are proud to have established 10 dealerships for MG in its first year of operation.

“Our ongoing growth demonstrates Australian demand for cars that are contemporary and committed to comfort and style. MG Motor Australia’s new dealer partners have been carefully selected by our dealer development team, ensuring a quality purchasing experience and excellent customer service.”

MG has sold 503 cars in Australia to the end of October, the bulk of those (352) the MG 6 Plus small sedan. The funky MG 3 has picked up 43 sales while the small crossover SUV, the MG GS has found 108 new homes.

“We must build the brand first,” said Cao of MG’s nascent return to Australia. “SAIC Motor has a long-term strategy in Australia. The ZS is an important first step, providing Australians with more choices.

“We hope this (the ZS) is going to be MG’s ground-breaking car.”
