The new Hennessey Venom F5 hypercar has been unveiled at SEMA 2017 in Las Vegas.

John Hennessey, founder of the eponymously named car company, expects the Venom F5 “to be the first road car capable of achieving more than 300mph (482km/h)”.

Mounted behind the passenger cell is a new twin-turbo V8 engine said to deliver over 1193kW (1600hp) to the rear wheels via a seven-speed single-clutch paddle shift transmission.

Featuring an all carbon-fibre body and a new lightweight chassis, the Venom F5 is said to tip the scales at just 1338kg (2950 pounds) and have a coefficient of drag of just 0.33.

The Venom F5 is said to be good for a 0-300km/h time of under 10 seconds, which the automaker claims is faster than current Formula One race cars.

Hennessey Special Vehicles also states the Venom F5 will be able to go from zero to 400km/h and back to rest in under 30 seconds.

The car, at least at this stage, rides on 19-inch wheels with 265/35 Michelin Pilot Sport tyres up front, and 20-inch rims with 345/30 tyres at the rear.

The company will build just 24 Venom F5 coupes, each with a starting price of US$1.6 million ($2.1 million).
