Nissan to join Formula E from 2018

Nissan will become the first Japanese manufacturer to join Formula E when it lines up on the grid in the 2018-19 season.

The company says its participation in the electric championship will be a great platform to share its Nissan Intelligent Mobility message, which focuses on how vehicles drive, are powered and integrated into society.

“As the ultimate expression of the thrill of instant acceleration and agile handling that’s at the heart of Nissan zero-emission driving, Nissan is going to electrify the Formula E championship,” said Daniele Schillaci, executive vice president of global marketing and sales for Nissan.

“It will give us a global platform for bringing our pioneering Nissan Intelligent Mobility strategy to a new generation of racing fans.”

“Nissan will be the first Japanese brand to enter this growing championship, bringing our long history of motorsports success to the Formula E grid,” he added.

The Japanese company will join other manufacturers like Jaguar, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche in the Formula E championship, though the latter two won’t be on the starting grid until 2019.

Formula E’s fourth season will commence on 2 December 2017 in Hong Kong, and will run until 29 July 2018, with the season finishing in the Canadian city of Montreal. Further details of Nissan’s entry will be revealed closer to the fifth season, which will start in late-2018.
