2018 BMW X3 revealed through leaked images

The all-new 2018 BMW X3, due to be unveiled in the coming hours, has surfaced online in the leaky European press.

Although full details are still to come, this comprehensive gallery offers a clear look at BMW’s new mid-sized SUV.

As expected, the new BMW X3 takes plenty of its styling inspiration from the smaller new X1, delivering a design both classically BMW and more than a little familiar.

Among the many changes is what looks to be a longer footprint, meaning we can expect more space in the rear and cargo area. The new model’s wheelbase will likely come close to or exceed that of the Mercedes-Benz GLC‘s 2873mm, stretching a good deal beyond the 2810mm of the current X3.

These images reveal we can expect the new line-up to include xDrive20d, xDrive30d and top-shelf M40i (unless the expected X3 M is confirmed) models among what will surely be a broad range.

As with its like-badged stablemates, the M40i is expected to be driven by a turbo six, delivering around 265kW of power and 500Nm of torque.

Numbers reported to have appeared early on BMW’s Hong Kong website suggest a 0-100km/h time of 4.9 seconds will be on offer with that variant. If true, that sprint would make the X3 M40i quicker than Audi’s 260kW/500Nm SQ5, which claims a respectable 5.4-second time. (The older SQ5, in 250kW/700Nm diesel form, claimed 5.1 seconds.)
