The Ford Focus RS Option Pack has been revealed this week, giving the Blue Oval’s hyper hatch several mechanical and cosmetic upgrades.

Compared to the already manic ‘standard’ Focus RS, the Option Pack adds a mechanical limited-slip front differential sourced from tuning company Quaife, along with a two-tone colour scheme inside and out.

The LSD has been developed by Ford Performance to further enhance the Focus RS’s grip in corners, which is already aided by the standard torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system.

“For hardcore driving enthusiasts, the additional mechanical grip offered by the Quaife LSD will make it even easier to carry speed through a corner on the track, and maximise acceleration on the way out,” said Leo Roeks, director of Ford Performance Europe.

“The new setup also delivers greater mechanical stability and control when braking hard, and will help drivers set the car up for power-slides using Drift Mode.”

Despite the addition of the new LSD, the Focus RS claims the same 4.7-second sprint from 0-100km/h.

The 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder Ecoboost petrol engine is also unchanged, developing 257kW of power at 6000rpm and 440Nm of torque between 1600 and 5000rpm.

All versions of the Focus RS specified with the Option Pack will come with the model’s signature Nitrous Blue exterior paint, with contrasting matte black mirror caps, roof and rear spoiler.

Filling the arches are 19-inch low-gloss black forged alloy wheels with ‘RS’ centre caps, with four-piston monobloc Brembo brake calipers finished in RS blue.

Inside, the standard Recaro shell seats now have contrasting Nitrous Blue leather highlights.

Australia

Damion Smy, product communications manager for Ford Australia, told CarAdvice the package will be considered for our market, though little information can be provided at this point in time.

“We are evaluating it for the Australian market. We’re always looking for ways to make our hero products even better, but don’t have any details to share at this stage,” he said.

While timing cannot be confirmed, the next-generation Focus is believed to be around the corner – likely to be revealed later this year or early next.

Considering the new car is well on its way, a likely time frame for the Focus RS Option Pack to arrive on our shores is sometime between now and mid-2018. Stay tuned to CarAdvice for more updates in the coming months.
