The 2017 Renault Trafic short-wheelbase van has received a power boost this week, along with sharp drive-away pricing for a limited time.
With the lower-output 66kW/260Nm 1.6-litre turbo-diesel engine now discontinued, the Trafic now features a gruntier 85kW/300Nm version of the 1.6-litre oiler, up 19kW and 40Nm.
Peak power is available at 2500rpm, with maximum torque arriving at just 1500rpm, translating to a power gain of 29 per cent and a torque bump of 15 per cent.
Despite the power gains, however, all other features and specifications of the entry-level van remain the same as the outgoing model, including the 1235kg payload and maximum braked towing capacity of 2000kg.
Also available is the more powerful 103kW/340Nm twin-turbo version of the 1.6-litre diesel, which is offered in both short- and long-wheelbase bodies.
Lyndon Healey, senior model line manager for Renault LCV (Light Commercial Vehicles), said: “This new 85kW engine for the Trafic improves driveability and with its very attractive drive away price it’s now an even better option for anyone looking for a mid-size van that’s easy, safe and fun to drive”.
“And like every other Trafic, it’s comfortable, quiet and of course has a very practical load-space and high payload.”
“The short wheelbase 85kW version with its 300Nm of torque will provide small business, tradies and couriers with the ideal set of wheels with which to do business,” he added.
Until June 30, the 85kW single turbo Trafic short-wheelbase van is on sale from $34,490 drive-away. Following the promotion, the manufacturer’s list price is $34,990 before on-road costs.
