ACCC launches Federal Court action against Mercedes for downplaying Takata airbag dangers

Australia’s top consumer watchdog is taking legal action against Mercedes-Benz after claiming the German car giant downplayed the deadly risks of potentially defective Takata airbags during customer service phone calls. Mercedes-Benz is accused of minimising the risk of serious injury or death from faulty Takata airbags when speaking with vehicle owners who contacted its customer service centre.

VFACTS July 2021 new-car sales results: Sydney lockdowns slam on the brakes

New-car sales continued to show signs of recovery in July 2021 after record lows last year, however Sydney applied the handbrake as the rest of the nation accelerated. Official VFACTS sales figures released today by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) showed 84,161 new vehicles were reported as sold in July 2021, an increase of 16.1 per cent for the same month last year, which had been severely affected by nationwide lockdowns.
