Ferrari SF90 Stradale sold out despite $1 million price

Ferrari’s first plug-in hybrid supercar – the SF90 Stradale, powered by three electric motors and a twin turbo V8 – has already sold out even before the final price is known. A group of about 25 Australian VIP customers attended the unveiling earlier this week at a lavish event in Ferrari’s home town of Maranello, Italy. It’s believed they all signed up for a car on the spot, selling out the entire allocation for Australia.

Ssangyong Australia well behind sales targets

Ssangyong is only on track to sell around half its initial target after 12 months of business, after re-launching in Australia with the Musso, Rexton and Tivoli in 2018. Ssangyong Australia boss Tim Smith was shy about sharing numbers, but said figures be officially on the VFACTS industry report at the end of May. That target was 3000 vehicle sales in a 12-month period, but a number closer to 1500 now looks more likely.

Jaguar reveals smarter 'Sensory Steering Wheel'

Jaguar Land Rover has taken a regular, everyday heated steering wheel and turned the technology on its head. Rather than roasting your palms on a chilly morning, the Sensory Steering Wheel uses two heating elements to tell drivers when and where to turn. Developed alongside Glasgow University, the wheel has elements on both sides of the wheel capable of warming or cooling its section by six degrees. Driver would be able to control how warm the wheel gets, if that's too much.

2019 Volkswagen Amarok V6 580 Ultimate review

Amongst the range of 4x4 utes available in Australia, Volkswagen’s Amarok is probably the most different and unique. It goes about its own agenda from a different point of view compared to the (mostly) Japanese-branded competition. While the Amarok’s sales volumes aren’t big compared to the leaders in the segment, Volkswagen has managed to wrangle a dedicated and enthusiastic following of buyers to its brand.

2019 Ssangyong Musso XLV review

Ssangyong’s presence – and workhorse range – in Australia gets a shot in the arm with the arrival of the long-wheelbase Musso XLV. Take a regular Musso, add 110mm to the wheelbase and 310mm of overall length, and you’ve got yourself an XLV. The Musso XLV comes with introductory pricing that mostly apes its smaller, shorter sibling. There is drive away pricing across the range, kicking off at $33,990 for the manual XLV ELX. Opting for an automatic costs $35,990.

2019 Toyota HiAce review

It's a long time between drinks – a full 15 years – but Toyota has finally taken the wraps off the all-new 2019 HiAce van and it's surprisingly really good. Prior to the last of the previous-generation HiAce finding a new home in Australia, Toyota will have delivered over 335,000 HiAce vans and buses to Australian customers since it originally went on sale. Despite its age, the HiAce also regularly held the top sales spot in a segment where its competitors had well and truly moved on.

Volkswagen Golf Mk8 Australian launch delayed to Q4, 2020

The Australian launch of Volkswagen’s vital new eighth-generation Golf has been pushed back by around 10 weeks, with the expected arrival time from its German factory now the fourth quarter of 2020. The news is contrary to what VW told us in March, after news emerged that the Mk8’s global rollout was being nudged back as its maker perfected the highly digitised and fully connected cabin. Better to be a bit late but ‘right’, than on-time and flawed, you might say…

2020 Range Rover Evoque review

It’s arguably the most important vehicle in Range Rover’s line-up. Yes, the eponymous Range Rover is the flag-bearer for the brand, its hulking presence a feature on the type of streets of the monied enclaves home to such vehicles. But it’s the baby of the family, the Range Rover Evoque, driving sales for the brand, with over 17,000 finding homes since the launch of the first-gen in 2011.

Hyundai Kona Electric long-termer: Interior

The Hyundai Kona Electric costs $64,490 before on-roads. It's a lot, especially given its bones are shared with a petrol-powered car priced from $23,500 before on-road costs. Does the interior stack up at that price point? The short answer is depends on how you look at it.  There are some meaningful differences on hand to make the Electric feel a more special than a normal Kona. Standard equipment is generous – given it's the Highlander, our tester comes with everything in Hyundai's kit bag.

Bentley Bentayga Speed: Big new baddy driven!

Tony heads to Wales for a first spin, on the track no less, in Bentley's beastly new SUV flagship, the Bentayga Speed. Catch the full story and piccies at the link above.

2020 Bentley Bentayga Speed review: Quick drive

To anyone on the outside, it would seem utterly ludicrous to roll up to the notoriously tight Anglesey race circuit, smack-bang on the edge of the Irish Sea, to flat-out-pedal one of the largest and most luxurious SUVs on the planet. Here in Wales the locals would surely say it’s totally bonkers. And, nine times out of 10 they’d be dead right. Except, this isn’t the standard Bentley Bentayga (which isn't exactly slow either) we’ve come all this way to sample.

2020 Mini Cooper S 'E' spied undisguised

The electric Mini Hatch has been spied pretty much devoid of camouflage this week in the US, ahead of its official debut later this year. The case for Formula E in Australia

Formula E has already hit some of the world's biggest, most exciting cities. London, Paris, Shanghai and New York have all hosted races, but there's no Australian event on the calendar. Yet. That would change if Allan McNish, three-time Le Mans winner and Audi's Formula E team principal, gets his way. Apparently "there's been discussions" about a race Down Under, but nothing has happened yet.

The only real pass mark was its 80% score for child occupant protection.

2019 Volvo XC90 long-term review: Infotainment

With that in mind, let’s have a closer look at the infotainment system in our long-termer Volvo XC90 in D5 R-Design flavour. The main element is the portrait-style touchscreen display, which measures in at 9.3 inches of size. It has only one home button hidden amongst the piano-black bezel.

Buying and modifying a Toyota LandCruiser 79 Series

It’s old, it’s overpriced, it’s slow and it’s thirsty. It’s also expensive, awful in traffic, and come to think of it, not exactly great on the highway either. It’s also a legend in its own right, and regularly outsells some of the cheaper, faster, safer and more efficient competition out there. It’s the Toyota LandCruiser 79 Series, in double cab format. And we’ve bought one to keep at CarAdvice.

2019 Mercedes-Benz C300 sedan review

With single-car garage reviews, it’s perhaps fair and reasonable to assess any new, or newly revised, model on singular merit. Hyundai, Kia and Genesis designs to become more 'differentiated'

Luc Donckerwolke, recently appointed head of design for the entire Hyundai Motor Group, has outlined his vision for the automaker. Speaking with Autocar, he said his team's "core task is to differentiate the design philosophy of the three brands". Part of this desire stems from the stranglehold the company has on the South Korean market, where it accounts for 70% of all new car sales. Failure would see the Korean automotive landscape become "too homogeneous" from a design standpoint.

2019 Renault Trafic Trader Life review

Renault has decided to take the challenge up to China’s $28,990 LDV G10 diesel with a cut-price version of its Trafic mid-sized van called the Trader Life. This range-opening model wears a tantalising drive-away price of $29,990 provided you’ve got an Australian Business Number (ABN), squeaking under the $30,000 instant asset write-off threshold. That’s $4000 less than the next variant in the model walk, too.

Hyundai i30N Fastback: Targa Tasmania test drive

In the right hands the Hyundai i30N hot hatch is capable of outpacing Porsches, BMWs, Audis and other exotic supercars. Unfortunately, I don’t have those hands.  Which is why although I’m behind the wheel of a Hyundai i30N Fastback, I’m not about to set any records. My main focus is keeping on Terra Firma while trying to extract as much enjoyment as possible from Hyundai’s entree into the hot hatch class.

It's the fourth year in a row Ferrari has won the award, a feat that's never been achieved before. Ford won three years running with its 1.0-litre EcoBoost three-cylinder engine, so back-to-back awards aren't unheard of, but it's an impressive achievement for the folks in Maranello nonetheless.

2019 BMW 530i sedan review

The BMW 5 Series has its work cut out for it. Not only does it have to fend off competitors like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, but now it potentially faces internal competition from the newer 3 Series range. Not to sell the 2019 BMW 530i short, though. It’s still every bit the large, luxury sedan you imagine when you think of the segment. The march of technology certainly hasn’t left it behind, but shifting buyer preferences may have.

2019 Jeep Wrangler review: Rubicon

It's not a perfect new platform, but the new Wrangler is a huge developmental step forward from the old model. I think you should be buying these and heading as far off-road as you dare to justify the outlay, but it's so much more refined on-road that you can't criticise those who will choose to use it solely around town.

Despite being one of the first to see the Hyundai i30 Fastback N at its global reveal in Düsseldorf, Germany, in 2017, it’s now two years on and I’m only just climbing into the driver’s seat for the first time. Back then, they presented the standard (non N) version only, and Hyundai Australia was yet to decide if it was going to take the model at all. Why I bought a Suzuki Jimny

Motoring writers don’t really need to buy new vehicles. There are 65 brands in Australia selling new cars, SUVs and commercials that need testing, ensuring our garages are rarely empty. This is why we more commonly own clunkers or ‘classics’ of varying repute; ones we swear will get that restoration some day... I’m guilty, having not owned a new car for a few years, opting to tinker in lieu with an E36 BMW 3 Series and Volvo 240.

The odds of a three-pedal Toyota Supra just got better, with BMW adding a manual option to the base Z4 sDrive20i in Europe. Mazda 3 turbo hot hatch percolating

The odds of a turbocharged Mazda 3 hot hatch returning to the fold in the near future remain long, but the company’s over-performing Australian division strongly supports the cause. Given the new generation Mazda 3 hatch is unashamedly a design-led model, sacrificing interior space to give you a coupe-like look and feel, a reborn MPS-type offer seems an obvious addition.

2019 Honda CR-V VTi-S AWD long-term review: Urban driving

Despite all the advertising guff (and associated imagery) surrounding what an SUV 'can' do, the reality is that most won't spend their time off-road adventuring or exploring the national parks that dot our wide, brown land. Rather, most will tackle the day-to-day mundane: making the school run, commuting to work, and heading to sporting grounds on the weekend – you know, the usual family stuff.

2019 Hyundai Kona Iron Man Edition review

“Who would buy one of those?” I’d thought as much when the 2019 Hyundai Kona Iron Man Edition popped up in the CarAdvice news feed in February. But there I was, target of the same question from Gina, social acquaintance and mother of two young girls, all of whom were sitting opposite me across the table of a Chinese restaurant wanting an answer from The Car Bloke.

Rolls-Royce reveals Champagne Chest

Rolls-Royce dabbles in a world most manufacturers couldn't dream of. At some brands, leather is considered a luxury option. At others, you can have that leather quilted, or stitched in all manner of crazy colours. At Rolls-Royce, that's just run-of-the-mill. At Rolls-Royce, it takes something seriously special to register as a special options. Something like this Champagne Chest, described as an "Epicurean Delight".

Ford Transit Custom: You don’t mess with imperfection

A van. A bloody van. I spent a week in a Ford Transit Custom and started thinking to myself: ‘I could really see myself in one of these.’ That’s not right. It can’t be right, can it? Does Ford’s tradie express deserve to share an esteemed spot on the imperfect list with pragmatic dream garage fillers like the Suzuki Jimny or Fiat 500?

2019 Ford Focus Titanium review

You can’t help but feel a little sorry for the Ford Focus. Ford has come up with an all-new fourth-generation Focus, catching its small hatch up to the latest class standard for driver-assist features and powertrain technologies.

Electric vehicle rollout shouldn't depend on government incentives - Polestar COO

Electric cars have been the hot topic in Australia of late – thanks largely to the (mostly incorrect) political debate from both sides of politics that has been taking place. But one manufacturer is of the opinion politics shouldn't really have a role in the phasing-in of the technology of the future.

A recent report from the USA revealed 76% of MX-5 soft-top buyers are opting for three-pedal cars, and 52% of RF buyers are choosing to row their own. Which got us wondering if the story is the same in Australia. Thankfully, Mazda was happy to indulge our curiosity.

2019 Toyota RAV4 review

Twenty-five years ago you could count the number of ‘soft-roaders’ on one hand. Now the market is crammed with more than two dozen choices. Indeed, for the past two years Australians have bought more SUVs than passenger cars – and the gap is widening. Buyers prefer the tall seating position to better see the road ahead. It’s also easier to get the little ones in and out of the back seat of an SUV. And easier for mature-age drivers to get in the front seat if their hips are knackered.

2019 Volvo S60 T5 review

Having already sampled the 2019 Volvo S60 in T6 and T8 guise after Paul Maric drove them in the States last year, we were keen to test what will become the entry-level model when it lands in Australia later this year – the T5 variant. Powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, which delivers 184kW and 350Nm, we drove FWD models in Sweden, but keep in mind the variant we eventually get in Australia will be AWD.

2019 BMW X2 M35i review

We’ve been blessed with a combination of inline-six power and rear-wheel drive in compact BMW sports cars for what feels like forever, but time stands still for no-one. The X2 M35i represents a number of firsts. It’s the first X2 M35i, for starters. No M Performance car has been built on a transverse front-wheel-drive platform before, and this is the first with a four-cylinder engine. You’ll be seeing a lot more of this formula going forward. It would want to be good.

REVIEW: BMW X2 M35i

The X2 is a stylish, fast, noisy crossover with one of the most desirable badges in motoring. Mission accomplished, to a point. But we've become accustomed to a degree of polish from BMW performance cars that's lacking here. There's plenty of room for improvement.

REVIEW: Porsche 911 Speedster

The Speedster is a purebred road car and one of the most accomplished sports cars on the planet, as well as one of the most enjoyable cars ever from behind the wheel. I never thought I’d ever say that about a 911 soft-top, but this car is a spectacular triumph in every regard bar its sky-high asking price.

2019 Porsche 911 Speedster review

At ten-tenths with your right foot flat to the boards while the tacho needle is dancing around the 9000rpm mark, you’re not thinking about the 375kW and 470Nm you’ve got at your command. No, you’re 100 per cent under the hypnotic spell of the 4.0-litre flat-six howl at full noise in the brand-new Porsche 911 Speedster.

Is this Mercedes-Benz EQC the new benchmark in luxury electric vehicles? Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport & Supersport R review

Goodyear's new Supersport range will consist of three separate tyres: the Supersport, the SuperSport R and SuperSport RS. We flew to one of Spain’s most famous race tracks to test the range. There is a good reason why the American tyre manufacturer is keen to get into this high-end category of tyres – they tend to be pricey and lucrative as a result. Besides, Michelin and Pirelli have both carved out a great deal of marketing success from creating these halo tyres.

BMW Z4 M: Small car, big engine struggles make hotter roadster unlikely

The cost of slotting a full-fat M engine into the new BMW Z4 has killed dreams of a followup to the Bangle-designed Z4 M. Offered as a coupe or hardtop, the original (and only) Z4 M drew on the 3.2-litre inline-six from the E46 M3. In other words, this is a very rare beast.
